Brandon & Brian ~ Married!

My first wedding of 2008! WhOOhOO!!
Once again under the wing of Amy Harcar of Harcar Photography. The wedding was held at the Columbus Athenaeum Downtown. The building may look like any other building on the outside but it has many Ballrooms and Theaters beautifully decorated inside.
Once I arrived and told the coincerge where I was expected, I was directed to go to the far elevator down the hall and take it to the 3rd floor where the wedding and reception was being held. Lugging what felt like 200 pounds of photography equipment, I was thanking my lucky stars I didn't have to take the stairs! I hopped on the elevator, nervous, but ready to get started. I waited patiently as the elevator rose, as well as anticipation. I watched the lights....2nd floor.......3rd floor, I've arrived......... to a completely dark, unlit, empty blackness! My heart skipped several beats, and my stomach fell to the floor. I stuck my head out into the empty nothingness and gasp! I've never been so spooked by the opening of elevator doors! Let me tell you, I was hitting that 1st floor button like it was nobodies business...Get me outta here...NOW!
Once back on the main floor, thankful I didn't need to change my pants, I went back and asked for directions again. This time, I was directed to try the stairs on the other side of the building :-) Lugging my now 400 pounds of equipment, I headed off again. By the time I huffed my way to the 2nd floor, I was pretty sure I could tell there was nothing up there, but blackness. I sat down my extra load and took the rest of the stairs solo, sure enough....blackness! OH Crap! Down to my equipment, back to the front door, this time I sent a text message to the other assistant photographer. "I'm here, I'm lost, come get me!" Once I calmed down and had a chance to look around, I started noticing the signs, leading the way. Ah-ha! Not waiting for Allison, knowing she was probably pretty busy helping Amy, I took off once again in search of the missing wedding party. Finally, I found them, I was probably 10 pounds lighter, I was soaked in sweat, but I was there! Here are a few of my faves.

*Details * Details*

The Yummy Cake!

I loved how I could see the lights from the ceiling in the water in the glass

"Mommy's Time Out"...they actually bottle that and no one told me!

These little girls did a wonderful job at making sure all the guest signed the guest plate

A few last minute touches from Dad before the ceremony

The beautiful bride....

I caught these cuties giggling over the kiss

Moving on the my favorite part of the night.....P-A-R-T-Y!!

Despite my terror filled beginning to the night, it ended with a sigh of satisfaction, lots of hugs from Amy and Allison, and a pat on the back for a job well done! Thanks Amy for starting my new year off with a bang and a party to match!

Monday

Random mutterings....

I know I have neglected my blog! Damian has let me know this is unacceptable!

The past few weeks has been high energy and high STRESS!

The last 2 Saterdays have been spent 3rd shooting for Amy again. What a blast! She amazes me with her knowlege, and her husband Joel as well. Anyone thinking of pursuing a career in photography absolutely must have a innate desire and passion for photography. It's HARD WORK!

I can't count how many hours I've spent with my camera in my hands, shooting on full manuel, in every light situation you can think of.

After 2 weddings in a row, and all that preparing and research, I'm exhausted! It's nice to have some time now to slow down and relax a bit....and think of the warm weather....it's coming ...right!?!
I have several portrait sessions lined up. We are just waiting for some fresh air and sunshine. Do I sound impatient about the weather!
I've been offered an amazing opportunity coming up this summer! I can't wait to share, but not just yet. There's a lot more work to be done on it first.
Cherene....this one's for you! check out this blog by Barefoot Memories ! Soccer Mom and Photographer! Did you see the the off camera lighting soccer portraits! We need to get together and knock around some ideas!
The kids have cabin fever, big time! We can't wait to get out on the 4 wheeler and burn some energy. I am going to be doing a photo shoot of each of them. It's been a few months since I've really bugged them about letting me use them to try out new ideas, and it's time for new pictures of them anyways. They are all such beautiful kids! They are starting to change before my eyes. And the growing process has kicked into high gear! Sometimes I can't wait until they grow older, and other times I dread each passing minute that get's them closer to leaving the nest I have built for us! It's been a long, hard, very scary at times, road to get where we are today.
I will share pictures of the last 2 weddings soon. I was so busy practicing with my camera in manuel mode, I have not even attempted to edit any of them yet. When you 2nd or 3rd shoot, you sign off all of your images to the photographer you are assisting. Amy doesn't mind me using my own images to show that I am skilled to my current level of taking images. At this point I shoot full manuel mode. It's hard to step off that ledge of comfort and safety that you get from the different auto modes the camera will give you. But once you do, there is a significant, noticible change in your pictures, and it's definitely for the better!
I'll have more soon. I'm going to get started on editing the wedding pictures and I promise to share!
Because my friends don't like post without pictures.....here's a few random shots from tonight around the house, unfortunately Devin was out and about with her friends.

Norman says, If I tell you I love you and smile, do I still have to go to bed?!?.

Wow, Sean does dishes!

and shows us his brand new mouth without braces, or maybe he just likes the taste of his fingers!

Carrie is a Televsi-phoner-netting-multi-tasker! Tell me it isn't so....
